Eugene Earl "Gene" Durham, Sr., 85, Corning, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Midland Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born October 4, 1931 in Emmet, the son of Pete and Elsie Mae (Malloy) Durham. He attended Holton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving during the Korean War.
He was employed at Goodyear for over 40 years retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; liked nothing better than a game of Spicy Farkle, and was an avid K-State fan.
He was a member of American Legion Post 400, V.F.W., and the Moose Lodge #555.
Gene married Peggy Ann Woodworth on March 8, 1952. She died May 19, 1976. Survivors include his companion, Kate Hiltibrand, Corning; daughters, Bobbi (Jerry) Harvey, Debi (Randy) Stark, Sandy (Chuck) Hanshaw, all of Topeka; sons, Gene (Rosalinda) Durham, Jr., Jim Durham, all of Seattle, WA; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sister, Smoky Hamlin, Topeka; sister-in-law, Dorothy Durham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Janice Ingenthron; brother, Charles Durham; and sisters, Leona (Faye) Sisson and Peggy Ann Spalding.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Inurnment services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 in the Corning Cemetery in Corning.
