Jo Ann Gerety

Jo Ann "Jody" Gerety, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020. She was born November 24, 1932 in Topeka, the daughter of Byrd L. and Florence N. (Forbes) Phillips.
Jody graduated from Seaman High School in 1950. She was employed by the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center for 23 years before retiring. She was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church, a long- time member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Order of Eastern Star and the Fraternal Order of Eagle's Auxiliary.
Jody married Lawrence James "Jim" Gerety on May 1, 1955 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Clyde Phillips, Thelma Heller, Neal Phillips, Lucille Bailey, Dorothy Priddy, and Robert Phillips.
Survivors include one son, Phil J. Gerety of Tecumseh, her grandson, Jake (Gina) Woodley, U.S. Naval Officer, and great-grandson, Bruin Woodley, all of San Diego, California and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Jody will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, at the funeral home where masks and social distancing must be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd, Berryton, Kansas 66409 or to Heartland Hospice, 5601 SW Barrington Ct., Suite 201, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
