Barbara J. Stevens, 89, of Topeka, departed this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 5, 1933 in Topeka, the daughter of Harry Nichols and Addie L. Woolridge. She was the only daughter and youngest of three brothers.
Barbara was employed by the Hillcrest Community Center and Rec Department/Shawnee County Parks and Rec for over 25 years until she became ill. During this time, she was also a member of the Laura Thurston Temple #1094 Daughter of Elks since 1975, where she held the office of Treasurer for many years. She also belonged to the Middlewestern States Association Auxiliary, Antler Guards, Past State President and many more offices through the years. Her past time was crafts, sewing and loved going to work and being around the kids that came to the Hillcrest Center.
Left to cherish her memories are include children; Gregory K. Stevens of California, Shelley I. Stevens of Virginia, Theresa Stevens (Brent) Berry of Topeka and ten grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, son; Andrew L. Stevenson, daughter; Deborah K. Stevens, her siblings; Donald, James and Harold Nichols and a great-grandson; Andre R. J. Brown.
Barbara will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment will take place at a later date.
