Sarah Jane Farkes, 88, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at a hospital due to a long battle with Kidney Disease. She was born May 30, 1935 in Nelson County, VA., the daughter of Mary and Alfred Wood.

Sarah has three surviving sisters, Betty Hall, Thelma Lee and Lois Cahall. She also has three children, Patricia Kratochvil, Nancy Diaz and Ricardo Diaz; five grandchildren, Jeremy Kratochvil, Sarah Drexler, Holly Spackman, Jason Vasquez and Nick Diaz. Sarah has 12 great grandchildren, two from Jeremy, Camrie Sparling and Jordan Kratochvil; two from Sarah, Nevaeh and Konner Drexler; four from Holly, Alexander Hernandez, Kerick Spackman, Storm Spackman and Riley Spackman; four from Jason, Jasmine, Jason Jr., Mya, Marley Vasquez. Sarah will also be having her first great-great grandson in December 2023 by Jordan and Laura Kratochvil.

Those individuals going to Heaven prior to Sarah are her brothers, Alfred Wood, Bobby Wood and great grandchild, Antonio Vasquez.

Sarah worked for the Federal Government as a Budget Analyst for 38 years. Besides enjoyed her family, she enjoyed artwork, computer games and bird watching. She spent the last ten years of her life with her daughter, Particia, in Topeka, KS surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, she would prefer potted plants that will live and grow.
