In Memory Of
Carolyn Ann Frye
1942 - 2023

Carolyn Ann Frye, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born June 26, 1942, to the late L.F. “Bill” and Elma Secord in Topeka, Kansas.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Ivan Raymond Frye. She is also survived by her children and grandchildren: Son Jeffrey and wife Sandy of Springfield, Missouri and their children Olivia and Jin; Daughter Elizabeth and husband Joe Steffen of Topeka, and their children Alex and Emma.

Carolyn was a graduate of Topeka High School and Washburn University. Carolyn taught high school and junior high history and literature until she became a mother. She then devoted her life to her family and spent her free time helping others through volunteerism. She was most proud of her work on the advocacy council on aging to pass the mill levy assessment, providing funding to various senior services in the community.

Carolyn had a pragmatic approach to life, pride in herself and her family and a love for dogs. She eagerly dog-sat her granddogs often. She was witty and had a dry sense of humor. She loved to bake (cinnamon rolls that can’t be replicated) and prepare gourmet meals for her family and special events.

The legacy of love and acceptance doesn’t die. It impacts the lives of those it has touched and molded and is carried forward to improve the quality of other lives and communities indefinitely. Carolyn was accepting of others, showing kindness through her words, actions and sometimes silence; she knew that the loudest isn’t always the wisest. She rooted for the underdog hoping the small or marginalized would win. She was compassionate and tolerant. While Carolyn will be missed, we can smile and be grateful for each act of kindness paid forward because of her.

Carolyn’s family will hold a private burial service for her in the future. The family asks you to consider making a memorial contribution to the Topeka Rescue Mission, Inc., PO Box 8350, Topeka, Kansas 66608-0350 or to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604-3720 in lieu of flowers.

Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
