Norma Kay Weaver
1937 - 2023
She was born June 3, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of John Albert and Mabel E. (Patterson) Waddell. She graduated from Topeka High School and received an associate’s degree as a licensed practical nurse from Kaw Valley Technical School.
Norma was employed as a licensed practical nurse for Drs. Webber and Davis and for Topeka OB. Before being a nurse, she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. She also worked part-time at the Overbrook Quilt Shop.
Ms. Weaver was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church and St. Matthews Catholic Church. She also belonged to multiple quilting guilds.
Norma married Pete Artzer; they later divorced. She then married Charles McCarthy; he preceded her in death. She later married Don Weaver on December 31, 1999 in Topeka; he preceded her in death on September 20, 2020. Survivors include her children, Andy Artzer (Jeanne) of Topeka and Eric Artzer (Marjory) of Wamego; stepchildren Randy Weaver (Deanna) of Topeka, Wendy Jost (Todd) of Lehigh, KS, and Doug Weaver (Deb) of Topeka; grandchildren Dillon and Luke Artzer (Danielle); Ethan, Elise and Eli Artzer; Hannah Weaver; Franklin and Sonja Jost; and Dakota, Henli and Tristan Weaver; great-grandchildren Jace, Myles and Axel Artzer. She was preceded in death by her husbands Charles McCarthy and Don Weaver; her parents; her brother Jim Waddell; and her good friend Barb Swisher.
Norma enjoyed bridge, sewing, and quilting. She loved celebrating any occasion with family and costumes.
Norma was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13th at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a reception after the memorial service at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel. A private family interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 801 SW Westchester Road in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Wind Hospice, 606 High Street, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
