Wilma Marie (Varner) Lill, 88, formerly of El Dorado and Towanda, KS, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Cambridge Place Senior Village in Marysville, KS.

She was born December 4, 1934, on the farm near Towanda, Kansas, the daughter of Grant and Eunice Violet (Pierce) Varner. She was a graduate of Towanda High School and attended Butler County Junior College and Emporia State Teachers College.

Wilma taught school at Silverton Elementary Grade School and later at Benton Elementary School. She also served as a paraprofessional and bus driver for Circle School District.

She was a long-time member of the Towanda United Methodist Church, now known as Towanda Community Church, United Methodist Women and church choir. Other memberships include Murdock Optics EHU, Highland FCE, 4-H Leader in the Towanda Rustlers 4-H Club, and was active in the Chevron Retirees Association and American Legion Auxiliary in El Dorado, KS.

Wilma married Joseph Tucker “Joe” Lill on August 5, 1955, in Towanda, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2007. Survivors include her four children, Joseph "Curtis" (Amy) Lill of El Dorado, KS, Mary Jo (Luin) Berger of Waterville, KS Dan (Sheila) Lill of Topeka, KS and John Lill of Manhattan, KS; grandchildren, Lucas (Rachel) Lill of Piedmont, OK, Emily (Jed) Bentz of Andover, KS, Lana (Tim) Sigle of Manhattan, KS, Lane Berger of Marysville, KS, Levi (Perry) Berger of Silver Lake, KS, Jett Lill of Overbrook, KS, Chandler Lill of Overbrook, KS, and Aidan Lill of Madison, AL; her great-grandchildren, AJ and Trinity Howell, Peyton and Landon Lill, Cleo and Josie Bentz, Cooper, Landon and Lucy Sigle and one expected; her great-great grandchildren, Greyson and Oakley Howell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, Lela Henry, Milburn Varner, Delbert Varner, Ray Varner and Donald Varner, Sr.; and her grandson, Lance Berger.

Wilma was devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with family, attending family gatherings and singing. She also enjoyed cooking (was well known for her cinnamon rolls, chicken noodles and meatloaf), volunteering, traveling, never knew a stranger and had the gift to gab.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Towanda Community Church, 103 4th St, Towanda, KS 67144.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the church with burial to follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, El Dorado, Kansas. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka, KS is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Towanda Community Methodist Church or to St. Croix Hospice, 225 Southwind Pl #2a, Manhattan, KS 66503.
