James F. “Jim” Hastings, Jr., 85, of Berryton, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was born October 23, 1938 in Topeka, the son of James F. and Alys L. (Barnes) Hastings, Sr.

Jim attended Highland Park High School and graduated from Berryton High School. He was employed as an Iron Worker with Iron Worker’s Local No. 10. He was a member of Iron Worker’s Local Union No. 10 where he served as President and Business Agent.

Jim was a life-long resident of southeast Topeka and the Berryton communities. He enjoyed going to Cruise Nights with his 1955 Chevy Belair which he restored. Jim loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family. He was always tinkering with something in his garage.

Jim married Mary Jo Heston on August 29, 1958 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include children, Geri (George) Cummings of Berryton, Stephani (Kelley) Land of Berryton, six grandchildren, Chelsea, Katelyn, Scott, Ansley, Shawn and Audrey, nine great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Shawn Hastings and Shane Hastings and his siblings, Jerry Hastings, Vernon Hastings, Karen Bower and Marvin Hastings. He had four additional siblings that passed away early in their childhood.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
