Dwight LaMar Elliott, 73, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 surrounded by all who loved him.

He was born December 22, 1950, in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Dwight Leroy and Mary Alice (Wilson) Elliott. He graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas. He attended West Texas State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in education in 1973.

LaMar began his employment with Santa Fe Railroad in Amarillo, Texas in 1974 and later transferred to Topeka, Kansas in 1980, retiring in January of 2011. He remained a member of the Union Lodge 427 TCU/IAM.

Mr. Elliott was a member of the Town and Country Christian Church, of Topeka as well as the Saint Paul Methodist Church in Amarillo, Texas and the Washburn Alumni Association. He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 40+ years.

LaMar married Vonnita Jean Anneler on June 14, 1996 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include children, Sherié L. (Jason) Wood of Amarillo, TX, Mary D. (Andy) Crist of Amarillo, TX, Dustin E. (Jean Anne Bench) Legler of Topeka, KS, and Karamae R. Legler of Topeka, KS, brother, Dale (Katrina) Elliott of Amarillo, TX; brothers-in-law, Von E. (Kim) Anneler and Thomas J. (Davina) Anneler both of Augusta, KS; 7 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews and so many friends. LaMar didn’t know a stranger!

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four aunts.

LaMar loved his family and friends. He was an avid sports lover. He enjoyed many gaming events such as baseball, basketball and football especially the Dallas Cowboys. He always had a great time with his bowling league and Barbershop Quartet.

LaMar’s wishes were for cremation. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday April 13, 2024 at the Town and Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS 66614.
