Eva M. Wood, 97, lifelong resident of Shawnee County, passed away Nov. 9, 2012. She was born Nov. 15, 1914 to Clarence and Florence (Matney) Hotze in Topeka.

Eva graduated from Topeka High School with the class of 1934. She was attending Topeka High at the time the first USS Constitution mast was erected on the school grounds and sang in the choir at the dedication ceremony.

She married Leo V. Wood on Dec. 15, 1950 in Topeka. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Eva retired from Howard Johnson Motel. She worked in the housekeeping department.

Eva is survived by her son, Steven L. Wood, of Topeka; a sister, Ethelda (Lawrence) Kurth, of Paola, KS; one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo and a nephew.

She loved to watch television. In younger years, she played the organ and was a voice coach.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1PM at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
