Adelaide A. McWhirt, 96, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023.
She was born August 10, 1926, in Hoyt, Kansas, the daughter of Peter and Betty (Peyton) McCaslin. She graduated from Hoyt High School in 1944.
Adelaide was a homemaker and was briefly employed by Hallmark and self-employed as a housecleaner.
Mrs. McWhirt was a member of the Highland Heights Christian Church of Tecumseh.
Adelaide married James E. McWhirt on January 2, 1946 in Kansas City, KS. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1984. Survivors include her children, Robert E. McWhirt (Janet) of Basehor, Larry R. McWhirt (Charlotte) of Gas City, IN, and Karin A. Juarez (Reuben) of Topeka; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren; ten step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her daughter Ruth E. Beltron; her brothers Jimmy, Durell and Jean McCaslin; and her sisters Adelee Baars, Jenny Marie Cockrell and Betty Jo Hinkel.
Adelaide enjoyed going to church and doing crafts. She also enjoyed baking, making candy and crossword puzzles.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Heights Christian Church, 2930 SE Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh, KS 66542.
