Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Alan Arthur Nauman, age 82, passed away at his home in Topeka, KS, Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Colonel Nauman was born August 13, 1933 in Douglas, WY, the son of Alvin Allen Nauman and Ralphine Adeline (Bimson) Nauman.
Alan married Lu Ann Bokenkroger on June 16, 1957 in Sheridan WY. She survives. Other survivors include step mom, Jeanne Elaine Nauman, daughters, Jeanine Ann Browning, Topeka, Lynne Denise (David) Conniff, St. Clair Shores, MI; son, William Alan Nauman; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Reva (Ray) Lucy, Sandi Greer, Jeanette Scarmardo, and James (Tina) Nauman.
Family was always very important to Alan, most especially his wife of 59 years. Over the years, Lu Ann and Alan routinely traveled out of state to visit family and did many social things together such as playing Bridge, and going to multiple musical and theater events.
No matter how hard it was to get there, Alan continued going to all activities to include his grandson's sports and church events in Topeka.
He graduated from Douglas, WY High School and received Bachelor's degrees from the University of Wyoming and Washburn University of Topeka, KS.
He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, and is a recipient of the Silver Star during the Vietnam War. Additional Awards and Decorations include but not limited to: Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Alan and Lu Ann lived in many places including Texas, Germany, Georgia, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Colorado, and Hawaii.
He also retired from Kansas Adjutant Generals Office as the Director of Human Resources.
He was a member of multiple organizations and associations including the Retired Officers Association, Military World Wars, Washburn Alumni, University of Wyoming Alumni, and Countryside United Methodist Church.
On Friday, July 8, 2016 Colonel Nauman will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 3:00 p.m. and Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, July 9, a memorial service at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd, Topeka, KS will be held at 10:00 am celebrating Alan's life. Lastly, a procession, inurnment with Military honors will follow the memorial service traveling to West Lawn Memorial Gardens at the end of Auburn Road.
