Albert E. Macey, 78, of Topeka, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on October 4, 1925 at Topeka, the son of "Eck" and Lena Owen Macey.
He graduated from Topeka High School. He was a Marine Corp veteran of WWII, serving from 1943-1946 in the Pacific Theatre aboard the U.S.S. Hindsdale which was targeted by a Kamakazi airplane. Subsequent to that event, he served on Siapan and Okinawa and finally in occupied Japan. He was employed by the Carpenter Paper Company, Burge Printing Company, the Kansas State High School Activities Association and the American Cancer Society before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Phiip Billard Post Ne. 1650, V.F.W., Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and the Oakland Presbyterian Church and was active in church league and city league softball. He was self-employed as a free-lance entrepreuner with "Acquisitions Extratrodinaire". He married Betty J. Searle on March 12, 1944 at Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Steven and his wife Dee of Edwardsville, KS, one daughter, Mayre Hoffman of Marriam, KS, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marjean Klotz and her husband Eddie of Lawrence, Joyce Popham and her husband John of Bedford, TX. Services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Macey will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening.
