Albert S. Moore, Jr. peacefully passed away at home, October 6, 2017 with his wife by his side. Al has battled Interstitial Lung Disease for 7 years.
He was born January 17, 1939 in Jefferson City, Missouri. His parents Albert Moore and Rossie Meyer Moore moved to Topeka when Al was 3 years old. He attended Topeka schools and graduated from Topeka High and Washburn University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
He met his wife Connie Walter at Washburn and they were married December 17, 1961.
Al went to work for his father who owned Topeka Transportation Company. After his father's death, Al sold the Company to the City of Topeka. He then went to work at Commerce Bank and Trust now CoreFirst for 26 years. At the time of his retirement in 2000, Al was Senior Vice President of the Investment Management Group and a member of the Bank Board of Directors. After retirement he and Connie spent winters at their home in LaQuinta, California playing golf, attending art festivals and meeting other Topeka friends at the local bar to watch KU basketball games together. They also enjoyed going on cruises with friends and family.
Al was President of Breakfast Optimist and Distinguished Lieutenant Governor of Optimist International. He served on the board of Topeka Civic Theater, Easter Seals, YMCA and served as President of the Board of Topeka County Club. From 1988 to 2000 he was part owner of the Red Lion Restaurant in Vail, Colorado. He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years; his son Albert "Kip" Moore III (Marti) of Golden, Colorado, his daughter Cristen Tilden of Topeka; 6 grandchildren Shannon Moore Beckner (Jake), Tyler and Chance Moore, Cassidy and Chase Tilden, step-granddaughter Loryn Fujinami and his two canine buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Jeff Tilden.
The family would like to thank Ann, Eric, Shaunessy and the many others at Midland Care for their loving care during Al's illness.
The service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 Wanamaker Road at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 followed by entombment at Mount Hope Mausoleum.
