Alfred Lindsay, 94, Topeka, died peacefully on February 4, 2008 at Midland Hospice.
He was born February 24, 1913 in Pittsburgh, PA to Robert Joseph and Bertha (Billingham) Lindsay. He spent his younger years in Tulsa, OK., and Mount Vernon, OH. In 1930 his family moved to California where he attended USC.
He married Mildred Allyne Congdon, April 2, 1935. They had been married 72 years and she preceded him in death a month ago. He is survived by two children, Margy Carter, Camarillo, CA; Bob Lindsay and wife, Wanda, Dover, KS; 3 grandchildren, Kevin Carter, Laguna Niguel, CA; Tom Lindsay, Topeka, KS; Tracy Cochran, Gardner, KS; 9 great grandchildren, and a sister, Peggy Haley, Galt, CA.
For many years he and Allyne owned a furniture store in Canoga Park, CA. After retirement they traveled and enjoyed their summer home on the lake in Idaho. He loved to boat, fish, and spend time with his family. Three years go, they moved to Thornton Place retirement center in Topeka, KS. In Camarillo he attended Trinity Presbyterian Church, and while living in Topeka they attended both Wanamaker Woods Nazarene and Dover Federated Church.
He will be cremated and a joint celebration for Al and Allyne's lives will be held in California at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
