Alfred M. (Al) Tyler, Jr., 87, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Presbyterian Manor in Topeka.
Al was born April 8, 1927, to Pearl Sadler Tyler and Alfred M. Tyler, Sr., in Maple Hill, Kansas.
He graduated from Wamego High School in 1945, where he met his future wife, Nellouise Marten. They were married March 5, 1946, in Wamego.
After Al's service in the U. S. Navy in World War II, he and Nellouise moved to Topeka. Al spent many years as a commercial licensed radio communications technician. He was an avid amateur radio operator, W0DRL, for 68 years. Al was a member of North Rock Baptist Temple. Al was also a talented musician. In 1934, at age 7, he started playing the guitar and singing. For 25 years, he had a music ministry and recorded 7 gospel albums.
Al is survived by his wife, Nellouise; daughter Leigh Ellen (Don); two sons Rick (Chris), and Jeff (Patricia). Survivors also include two grandsons Matt (Courtny), Nathan (Angela), and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, 4712 SW 6th, Topeka, KS 66606.
