Allen Gregory Guthrie
Allen Gregory Guthrie passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. Allen was born August 1, 1955, in Topeka, KS, the son of Robert Cooper Guthrie and Helen "Marjorie" Guthrie. He attended Topeka High School, graduating in 1973.
Allen was married in 1974 to Ellen Jean Cowell. He was self employed as a youth sports official (football, basketball, volleyball and fast pitch softball) for 25 years. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Cub Scout Camp Director for 2004-2008, as well as being a member of the Heartland Kidney Network Patient Advisory Council, and the Police Athletic League.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marjorie. He is survived by his wife Ellen, his daughter Erin Guthrie Parker, his son Royce S. Guthrie, as well as his sister Nanci J. Cunningham and his brother Robert C. Guthrie.
A Memorial Service for Allen will be held Thursday, March 25, 11:00 at Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd, Berryton, KS 66409. In lieu of flowers, memorial suggestions are the Kansas Dialysis Services Patient Assistance Fund (Kansas Dialysis Service, 634 SW Mulvane, Ste. 300, Topeka, KS 66606) or to the Jayhawk Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America designated for the new Cub Scout camp (1020 SE Monroe, Topeka KS 66612).
