Aloysius J. "Al" Herman, 78, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Topeka. He was born on October 7, 1937 in Piqua, Kansas, the son of John and Mary Wille Herman.
He is survived by his wife, Hannelore; a daughter, Arleta and her husband Steve Bateson of Basehor, Kansas; two sons, Mike and his fiancé Patts of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ron and his wife Candace of Overland Park, Kansas; three step-children, Siglinde Cox, Dwana Baker and JD Baker of Topeka; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
After his retirement from the military, he worked part-time for the Topeka Parks and Recreation Department and was a member of the German American Club of Topeka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hayden High School.
