Alton W. Jones, 86, of Tecumseh, formerly of Melvern, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2005 at Manor Care in Topeka due to bladder cancer. He was born on September 14, 1918 in Crescent, Oklahoma, the son of Arthur W. and Elva L. Stephens Jones. He was an Army Veteran and served in WWII. He farmed in the Melvern Community for many years. He was a member of Highland Park Church of Christ and the American Legion. He married Myrtle M. Wards on November 14, 1941 in Topeka. She survives along with three daughters, Lois M. Rosevelt of Tecumseh, Margaret Fluke of Topeka, Eunita Jackson of Andover, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, one sister, Ruth Hickey of Osage City and one brother, Larry Jones of Topeka. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Park Church of Christ, 3510 S.E. Indiana Ave. in Topeka. Graveside committal services will be at Noon Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona. Mr. Jones will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel on S.E. 29th St. where the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Monday evening.
