Alvin Lee "Al" Camblin, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook.
Al was born July 18, 1937, in Topeka, the son of Wilbur and Velesta (Thompson) Camblin. After attending Highland Park High School, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washburn University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and received a Master's degree in Education at Emporia State University.
Al married Barbara Jean Mumma on August 13, 1960 in Topeka. A dedicated teacher and administrator for 39 years in the Auburn-Washburn USD 437 School District, Al impacted the lives of many students at Washburn Rural High School, Auburn Middle School, Pauline South Middle School, and Jay Scheidler Elementary School.
Beyond education, Al's greatest passion was history. Al also enjoyed gardening, antiques, and traveling.
Al was a member of the Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church, Tecumseh, KS.
Al is survived by his two sons, Clayton (Kelly) Camblin and his children Austin, Colin and Megan of Davie, FL; and Bradley (Barbara) Camblin and their daughter Hailey, of Gilbert, AZ.
Al was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside inurnment will follow at Topeka Cemetery.
