Alvin L. Swallow

Alvin L. Swallow, 76, of Lawrence, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at a Lawrence retirement center. He was born on August 3, 1932 in Lawrence, the son of Vern and Esther Unger Swallow. He graduated from Berryton High School in 1951. Alvin was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and the TCU International. Alvin also farmed for many years. Alvin married Naida L. Humphrey on December 25, 1953 in Stull. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Hildenbrand of Stull, Landra Harwood of Lawrence, four grandchildren, Michelle, Rachel, Riley and Tanner, five great-grandchildren, Trey, Thaddeaus, Taelur, Addison and Elizabeth. Alvin was preceded in death by one sister, Darlene Becker. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Clinton Cemetery. Burial will follow. Alvin will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
