Alvin W. Andres, Sr.

Alvin W. "Andy" Andres, Sr., 82, of Topeka, KS, passed away October 24, 2012 at McCrite Health Center. He was born October 10, 1930 in Topeka, to Irvin A. and Alice M. (Hooper) Andres.

Andy graduated from Highland Park HS (a member of the 1947-48 undefeated Scotts football team). He began work at the Santa Fe offices in 1948. Andy joined the US Air Force, was stationed in Orlando, FL, and served in Japan for 18 months. He attended and graduated from Southeastern Bible College in 1960. A Degree in Bible was completed at CBC, Springfield, MO in 1962. Alvin served as a pastor at the Assembly of God Church in Holton, KS. He served as interim pastor at Highland Park Assembly of God and other area churches, and was on staff at Topeka First Assembly of God in charge of senior ministry. Alvin served on the board of The Topeka Rescue Mission, and served in area nursing home ministry. He retired from BNSF after 44 years in 1992. Upon retirement, he traveled with M.A.P.S. for 4 years volunteering for repairs on Assembly of God properties.

Alvin married Edmee T. Gustafson on June 19, 1953. He is survived by his wife and four children, Elizabeth E. (Ken) Hedegaard, Susan M. (Kent) Smith, Alvin W. (Tina) Andres, Jr., and Karen L. (Danny) Russell; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5-7PM, October 26, 2012 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS. Funeral services will be held at 1PM October 27th at Topeka First Assembly, 27th and Topeka Blvd. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Topeka, KS.
