Amelia "Amy" Besler Smith, 89, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020.
She was born August 6, 1931, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of John and Barbara (Schiffelbein) Besler. She graduated from Hayden High School in 1950 where she was homecoming queen.
Ms. Smith was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Topeka.
Amelia married Tom F. Smith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka on June 6, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2019. Survivors include her children, Stephanie Jones (Doug), Cynthia Smith, Dr. Michael Smith (Dr. Jane Klim), Maureen Hillis (Ron), Timothy Smith (Kris) and Kathleen Kalny (Jim); grandchildren Rob Jones, Megan Jones, Laura Odeen (Sean), Taylor Smith, Gabby Smith, Danielle Smith, Zachary Smith (Hannah), Ashley Smith, Morgan Kalny, Nick Kalny and Max Kalny; great-grandchildren Lily Jones, Molly Jones and Slater Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings Margaret Volz, Louise Schmidtlein and John ("Pete") Besler.
Amy enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and spending time with her family – especially her children and grandchildren.
There will be a private graveside service with a Celebration of Life in the summer.
