Amos L. Evans, 83, of Tecumseh, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born September 10, 1928 in Reading, KS, the son of Henry and Mary Gladys Linsey Evans. Amos graduated from Reading High School. He had resided in the Tecumseh community since 1956. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years before retiring in 1985. Amos was a member of Reading Baptist Church and attended Topeka Bible Church. He had a great love for his family.
Amos married Verlene Gunter on August 4, 1950 in Reading. She survives. Other survivors include their two children, William "Bill" (Connie) Evans and Debra "Debbie" Evans, both of Topeka. Amos was preceded in death by his two sisters, Lucille Jennings and Evangeline Kramer.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Amos will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Topeka Bible Church, 1135 SW College Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 or to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608 or to the organization of the donor's choice.
