Amos Michael Gottfried

Amos Michael Gottfried, 75, of Topeka, passed away after battling bladder cancer, Wednesday, November 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.

He was born June 1, 1949, in Oil Trough, Arkansas, the son of Rudolph and Della (Fuller) Gottfried. He graduated from Truman High School in 1967. He served the United States Air Force in Korea and Vietnam, serving the Vietnam War. 

Amos drove a truck with John Deer for 18 years. He was a partner with D & M Security from 1998 until 2006. Later he worked with Walmart as a meat cutter and cook until retiring in 2015.

Mr. Gottfried was a member of the Truman High School Wildcats Alumni of 1967.

Survivors include daughter, Mellissa (Christopher) Carver; son, Clayton Gottfried (Jenea Nea); step-children, Yahanna Wescott (Alex VanCleave), Crystal Wescott, Lawrence Wescott, Mark Wescott and Robin Crawford; grandchildren, Idon Gottfried, Adrian Gottfried, Kaiden Brant, Renata Masters, Jessica Gooden, and Hailey Crawford; siblings, Jane Stites, Dean Gottfried (Alice), Martha Cupp and Roy Gottfried (Patricia); nephews, Jeff Stites, Alex Stites, Rudy Gottfried, Scotty Gottfried, Shannon Cupp, Robert Gottfried and Tim Gottfried; nieces, Cynthia Carr and Jamie George, and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Reba Gottfried, Dorothy Gottfried, Charles Gottfried and Kay Real, and nephew, Corey Gottfried.

Amos enjoyed watching westerns and the weather channel, and playing Jewel Quest.

Amos’ wishes were for cremation. Inurnment with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS 66048. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the family residence, 6731 SW Rockpost Rd, Topeka, KS 66619.
