Amy Wray Reed, 92, Topeka, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka.
She was born August 17, 1912 in Moultrie County, Illinois, the daughter of Milo and Ethel Iona Thompson Wray. She was raised in Sullivan, Indiana, graduating from Sullivan High School. She also graduated from business school in Pontiac, Michigan. She had lived in Topeka for over 20 years.
Mrs. Reed was employed by the Boy Scouts of America in Pontiac MI. She also worked for the renowned Hays and Hays Law Firm in Sullivan, Indiana. One of the partners, Will H. Hays, established The Production Code of 1930 (popularly known as the Hays Code), which enforced the moral content of American films from 1930-1966. Mrs. Reed later worked 17 years for the Federal Government, working in land acquisition for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, Tennessee, and then as a Personnel Specialist for the Civil Service Commission in Atlanta, Georgia.
She married Robert Edward Reed on June 1, 1944 in Sullivan, Indiana. He died November 9, 1981.
She was a member of Faith United Protestant Church in Park Forest, IL over 50 years, and had been active in the Civic Newcomers Club in Topeka.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Mason and husband Richard, Topeka, a granddaughter Amy Katherine Mason, Salt Lake City, Utah, a sister Candace Cole, Boca Raton, Florida, 2 sisters-in-law, Juanita Cox and Marcille Cox Ellingsworth, both of Sullivan, Indiana, and 13 nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, 1590 S.
