Ann E. Osborn

Ann Etta Osborn, 83, Topeka, was born into heaven on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at a local hospital.

Ann was born on earth November 1, 1927 in Welda, the daughter of Orville and Bertha (Johnson) Nokes. She graduated from Welda High School and in 1944 graduated from Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg where she received a teaching certificate.

She taught elementary grades in a one room school in Kincaid for one year. She moved to Topeka in 1946 and briefly worked for Santa Fe Railroad.

Ann married Glenn L. Osborn on April 19, 1947 in Welda. Together they owned and operated Osborn Television Antenna Service for over 25 years.

She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, helped with Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), sewed for the nursery, cooked for Meals of Mercy and worked in the library; she was a member of a Home Demonstration Unit (HDU) for over 50 years; she sold AVON for several years; and she was a member of a Christian women's birthday club. Ann enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, and playing games with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was our sweetheart.

Survivors include daughters, Dala (Raul) Morales, Kaufman, TX, Lynn Gillmore, Topeka; son, Randy (Karen) Osborn, Topeka; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorna (Keith) Brecheisen, Janette Mullins; brother, Larry (Elnora) Nokes; and sisters-in-law, Helen Nokes and Mahlene Nokes. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 3, 2009; and brothers, Dwight and Duane Nokes.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private family inurnment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Covenant Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Baptist Church, 5440 SW 37th, Topeka, Kansas 66614 or the Kansas Children's Discovery Center (KCDC), PO Box 4014, Topeka, KS 66604. Please mention your donation to KCDC in Ann's memory, to commemorate her love of children.
