Ann Clark Gay

November 26, 1942 — August 10, 2018

Ann Frances Clark Gay of Topeka, KS died on August 10th after an 8-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Coleman, TX on November 26, 1942. At the time of her birth, her father, Davis Clark, was in Europe during WW II with the Army Air Corps. Her mother, Frances, stayed with the family in Texas. Ann first met her father at age 3.

Ann is survived by her husband of 52 years, John, and children Clark (Cathy) Gay of Overland Park, KS and their children Sam, Joey, Jake and Sarah; Dorsey (Troy) Paul of Overland Park, KS and their children Mitchell, Elizabeth and Duncan; Allison (Tony) Montalto of Glen Ellyn, IL and their children Nicolas and Mia; and step-son John Gay of Dallas, TX. Ann is also survived by her brother, Bill Clark, of Sweetwater, TX and his two daughters, Eve (Chris) Patterson and Sarah Clark.

Ann was raised in Sweetwater, TX. Her home was very much a Christian-centered one where moral values and love of the Lord took priority. Ann graduated from The University of Texas in 1965 with a BA in mathematics. She loved the Longhorns all her adult life. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. In later years, Ann earned an MBA from Washburn University. Through the years, she worked as a computer programmer, systems analyst, bank personal trust administrator, research analyst for the KS Dept. of Health and Environment, math teacher and piano teacher.

Ann and John met at a formal sorority dance in Austin, TX. They were married in 1966 between John's 2nd and 3rd years of medical school. Together they completed medical school, internship, 3 years in the US Navy and residency. The children were born during those years and the family moved to Topeka in 1974.

Ann had a deep love of music and was a gifted piano player. She began playing at age 5 and was strongly encouraged to practice in the early morning hours by her mother for many years. She was a blessing to many people by playing at family gatherings and Christmas parties. She played at the Cotton-O'Neil Cancer Center as a volunteer. Nothing pleased her more than to play while her father sat beside her and sang.

Ann was a member of PEO for 48 years. She was also a member of the Junior League and the Stormont-Vail Hospital Auxiliary. Ann volunteered with Midland Hospice and was a mentor to women at the Topeka Rescue Mission. She was a member of Topeka Bible Church for 33 years. Ann loved to play bridge and loved being with friends. She was an avid KU basketball fan. Nothing was more important to Ann than her family, and she consistently placed the needs and desires of others above her own. She had the heart of a servant.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 17th at the Topeka Bible Church, 1135 SW College Avenue, Topeka, KS, 66604.

Memorial contributions may also be made to Topeka Bible Church.
