Anna Louise (Barrand) Gibbs, age 96, went to her
heavenly home March 30, 2015 in Topeka. She
was born on February 25, 1919 to George and
Ethel (Bryant) Barrand in Horton, KS. In this area she lived
and raised her own family, despite losing her sight.
She was blessed with 3 children, Sandra (Blankenship)
Steinbrink, Jan Blankenship, and Jill (Tinsley) Miller.
Louise married Raymond Gibbs in 1971. They lived
in Lane, KS for 16 years then 24 more in Topeka.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents,
siblings, and daughter, Sandy. She is survived by her son
Jan Blankenship and his wife Patti of Granite Bay,
CA; her daughter Jill Miller, and her husband Joel from
Niangua, MO; grandchildren: Leslie Scott, Julie
Lidstrom, Christi Duecy, Guy and Curt Blankenship,
and Mike and Kelley Miller; great-grandchildren: Samantha,
Casey, Tinsley, Ashley, Elise, Anna, Winter, and
Dylan; great-great-grandchildren: Amaya and Liam.
Though blind, Louise enjoyed an active life, was
independent, and often traveled by herself. She
learned and then taught the art of basketball net
weaving for the Kansas Industries for the Blind.
Louise loved dancing, music, animals, and dolls.
She enjoyed books, jokes, interesting stories, and
the company of her many friends and large family.
Services will be April 9, 2015 at 1:00PM at Dove Cremation &
Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will be in Kennekuk Cemetery
near Horton, KS.
