Annabelle Baker

August 11, 1921 — August 7, 2014

Annabelle Baker, 92, of Topeka, passed away August 7, 2014 at Stormont-Vail hospital. She had formerly lived in Bella Vista, AR and Shawnee, KS.

Annabelle was born on August 11, 1921 in Greenville, MO to Robert White and Lulu Thurston, the youngest of seven children. She attended schools in Greenville, graduating in 1939. She sang alto in high school and church choirs.

While working at the Style Shop in nearby Piedmont, MO, Annabelle met Robert K. Baker who was working on a local construction site, Clearwater Dam. They were married at the First Christian Church in Piedmont on June 8, 1947.
They moved many places, including Nebraska and California, due to Bob's work with various construction companies. In 1956 they settled in suburban Kansas City.

Annabelle was a sales clerk for Macy's in Mission, KS. She retired in 1982. She and Bob were members of Merriam Christian Church (KS) where she participated in the Ruth group of Christian Women Fellowship. They enjoyed playing pinochle with a group of their friends from church.

In 1991 Annabelle and Bob moved to Bella Vista, AR. They became members of Forest Hills Church (formerly Judson American Baptist Church). Retirement afforded them the opportunity to travel extensively, especially in the western US and Canada.

Bob passed away in August of 2010. In April of 2011, Annabelle relocated to Topeka, KS. She was a member of First Christian Church of Topeka.

Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernest, John, Roland, and sisters Edith, Louise, and Mae. She is survived by a son, Tom and his companion Cindi Daniel of Overland Park, KS; a daughter, Cheryl Pucket of Topeka, KS; grandson Andy Pucket(Cassie) of Fowler, KS; granddaughter Katy Renner(Nick) of Olathe, KS; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 21 at Merriam Christian Church, 9401 Johnson Dr., Merriam, KS 66203.
