Antonio Vázquez, 84, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
Antonio was born June 5, 1931 in Fomento Las Villas, Cuba, the son of Alvaro and Luz (López) Vázquez. He graduated from high school in Cuba.
He owned a restaurant and hotel in Cuba and managed his father's restaurant before moving to the United States in 1967. He worked at Aristo Foods, Myron Greens, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Meadow Gold, and Topeka High School, retiring in 1994.
Antonio married Iraida Gutiérrez on December 6, 1957. His wife of 58 years survives. Other survivors, whom he treasured, include daughters, Iraida (Pat) Orr, Marissa Roberts, all of Topeka, Hortensia (Jeff) Smith, Alton, IL; 7 grandchildren: Michelle Roberts-Kolodziej (John), Melissa Dexter (Ethan), Ashley Roberts, Lindsay Roberts, Rachel Orr, Elizabeth Smith, and Christy (Matt) Scott; 9 great-grandchildren: Elijah, Rosalie, and Theodore Antonio Dexter, Franklin Kolodziej, Kiley Stauffer, Kinlee, Chloee, and Taygen Tracy, and Sophie Scott; 4 sisters: Gloria Morales, Mercedes Balbis, Elvia Rodriguez, and Adela Vázquez; and 2 brothers: Jorge Vázquez and Alvaro Vázquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Luz Maria Fajardo and Caridad Padilla; and son-in-law, Tim Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at First Free Methodist Church, 3450 SE Indiana. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Free Methodist Church or the Topeka Rescue Mission.
