Arthur Bob "Dickie" Whitsell Jr., 61, Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005 at his home.
He was born November 15, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Arthur B. and Clemme Whitsell. He attended school in Knoxville.
He moved to Topeka in 1964, and joined the Army in 1965. Mr. Whitsell seved in Vietnam from 1965-1966. While serving in Vietnam, he received the Vietnam service medal, Vietnam Champaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 2 0/S Bars, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Badge Rifle M14. After his discharge from the Army in 1968 he returned to Topeka, where he resided until his death.
Before he was disabled Mr. Whitsell worked for Medow Gold Dairy and Orkin Exterminating.
He married Marilyn Hayes on August 28, 1969. They were divorced.
He is survived by a son Scott and his wife Cindy of Tecumseh, a grandson, Bobby Arlis of Tecumseh; two sisters, Goldie Wright of Tennessee, and Wanda Haun of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whitsell was preceeded in death by his son Arthur "Bobby" Whitsell III, his parents, two brothers; Thomas Arlis and Frank Whitsell, and a sister, Barbara.
A funeral service will be at 11a.m., Monday, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gable's Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Whitsell will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
