Arthur W. Phillips, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at his residence. He was born on January 28, 1927 in Mayetta, the son of Lynn and Dora A. Ent Phillips. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He lived in Torrence, California for 38 years where he owned and operated Art Phillips Plastering. He moved to Topeka in 1991. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He married Evelyn L. Linder on November 15, 1946 in Olathe. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2002. He married JoAnn Benedict on January 31, 2004 in Topeka. She survives . Other survivors include his three sons, Steven L. Phillips and his wife, Alicia of Topeka, Ronald D. Phillips of Torrence, California, Timothy J. Phillips and his wife, Lois of Torrence, California, five grandchildren, Allison, Theresa, Shannon, Tommy and Brian, four great-grandchildren, three step-sons, Andy Baer and his wife, Jeanne of Ottawa, Marty Long and his wife, Sandy of Topeka, Charles Long and his wife, Terri of Topeka, one step-daughter, Teresa and her husband, Gary Wenger of Topeka, eight step-grandchildren, two brothers, Larry Kessinger and Karl Kessinger of Georgia and one sister, Mary Rickel of Wakarusa. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Masoleum where military honors will be presented by Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. Mr. Phillips will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
