Arthur W. Morford, 87, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Presbyterian Manor.
Art was born February 17, 1923 near Soldier, the son of Arthur C. and Josie A. (Clouse) Morford. He was raised on a farm near Delia. He was a welder with the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor from 1943 to 1946. He owned a truck stop at Belvue, and worked as a professional welder. He owned Kansas Van & Storage (Mayflower agency) from 1965 until he retired in 1998. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Arab Shrine.
Art married Alice E. Brase on June 1, 1947. She survives. Other survivors include sons, James (Peggy) Morford, Topeka, John (Ten) Morford, Houston, TX; daughter, Ann (Jack) Wasson, Topeka; 7 grandchildren: 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Art will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
