Austin Victor Spencer of 1615 SW Polk St. died June 27, 2008 at the age of 93. Mr. Spencer was born July 30, 1915 in Perry, Iowa to Anna and Dale Spencer. He graduated from high school in 1934 in Topeka, Kansas and joined the U.S. Army serving honorable in World War II, Korea and retired from the military in 1965. Mr. Spencer worked in Topeka as farm laborer, Morrell meat packer and self employed. He is a member of River of Life Family Church and had served as head usher and board member for the past thirty years. He was honored last fathers day as being a pillar and father to all the members of the congregation. Mr. Spencer had two sisters, Maxine A. Spencer and Blanche D. Bender; three brothers, Paul H. Spencer, Horace D. Spencer, and Lorin J. Spencer, all who preceded him in death. Surviving nephews are Carroll Spencer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dean Bender of Nevada, Iowa; a niece, Marjorie Burr of Gutherie Center, Iowa; and a host of grand nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at River of Life Family Church, 1601 NE Seward. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Spencer will have open casket visitation from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday before the service time at the church. Memorials in Mr. Spencers name may be sent to River of Life Family Church.
