Barbara J. Davis

Barbara J. Davis went to be with her Lord the 18th day of October 2007 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Barbara was born August 19, 1943 in Collinsville, Oklahoma, the 6th of 7 children born to Ralph and Ruby Bledsoe Rankin. She spent her school years in Oklahoma, Colorado and Arkansas. She graduated from High School in Charleston, Arkansas in 1961. Barbara wed James (Jim) W. Davis on March 4, 1962 on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. She spent the next 20 years traveling the globe with Jim as he served the United States as a member of the US Army. She is survived by her husband Jim of the home, her son James and his wife Kelly of Topeka and their sons A.J. and Tyler. She is also survived by 2 of her sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. Her two grandsons were the pride of her life and each moment spent with them was cherished. Also in her life were Riley and Elizabeth Dickerson and Dillan Jacobs whom she also loved as her grandchildren.

Barbara was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Rainbow Circle and the Family Life Ministry Team.

Barbara accomplished much in her life but nothing as important as being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Devotion to her family was a daily activity into which she poured her heart and love.

Barbara will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The family asks that you join them at a celebration of Barbara's life, which will be held at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 29th & Michigan at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
