Barbara Jean Hutchison, 80, of Topeka, passed away December 25, 2012. She was born January 11, 1932 to Virgil J. and Beatrice (Smith) Revely. She was raised in north Topeka. She attended Curtis Jr. High and Topeka High School where she graduated with honors. She later attended classes Washburn University. She married Ira James Hutchison and had two children, Rhonda Cheryl Hutchison and J. Scott Hutchison.
She began her career as a legal secretary and served in the private sector as well as District and Federal law offices in Topeka. Early in her career, Barbara collaborated as part of the Charles Scott team while he served as a key legal counsel for the landmark case Brown vs. The Topeka Board of Education 1954. Barbara was a member of the Daughters of Isis.
In her later years, her greatest past time was spending holidays with her two granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsey Hutchison. She is survived by her son, J. Scott Hutchison (Kelly) of Hyattsville, MD; her two granddaughters; her sisters, Odessa Burton (Vincent) of Topeka and Alicia J. Revely (Rose) of Kentucky; her brother, Donald B. Revely (Judy) of Topeka, and a host of friends and relatives who she never forgot and who accompanied her as she made her way home!
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, and two brothers, Virgil J. Revely Jr., and Elsworth Scott Revely.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
