Bennie L. Jackson, 72, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.
He was born August 22, 1939 in Naples, TX, the son of Ben J. and Mary L. Hunter Jackson. Bennie had resided in Topeka since 1958. He was employed by the Forbes Air Force Base for nine years before transferring to the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center where retired in 1995. He was also employed by the Topeka State Hospital for several years before they were closed. After retiring, he volunteered as a Foster Grand Parent at KNI until he was unable to do so due to his health. Bennie received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and then received water Baptism by the late Reverend John H. Kearney. He was previously a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, the New Jerusalem Baptist Church and was currently a member of the Inward Faith Outreach Ministries.
Bennie married Ruby J. Akins on June 6, 1958 in Dekalb, TX. She survives. Other survivors include their four children, Ruby D. Bryant, Lora A. Pattillo and Robert L. Jackson, all of Topeka and Kimberly D. Townsand of FL, mother, Mary L. Jackson, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Londell Jackson of Topeka, James N. Jackson of CA, one sister, Loretta Brice of TX and a host of family and friends. Bennie was preceded in death by his son, Bennie L. Jackson, Jr. on October 9, 2007.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Inward Faith Outreach Ministries. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Bennie will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
