Bennie C. Young, 65, Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2010 at his residence.
Bennie was born March 5, 1945 in Marville, AR, the son of Willie and Rosetta (Ford) Young.
He was employed in the Maintenance department of Topeka USD-501 at Topeka High School for 28 years. Bennie was also employed with IMA for 15 years.
He had received a Humanitarian Award for rescuing a family of five from a burning home in 2007.
Bennie married Patsy Patterson on May 21, 1968. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Joseph Young, Craig Young, Kenny Young; daughter, Christina Young, all of Topeka; brothers, Ledell Young, Carl Young, Sherman Young; sister, Lilliian Young; and 6 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Choice Young and Willie Bea Young, and brothers, Mike Young, Dollie Young and Nathaniel Young.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at First Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Bennie will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
