Bernard Austin Alberty

September 17, 1935 — January 23, 2013

Bernard Austin Alberty, affectionately known and called by his middle name "Austin" by his family and friends was born in Osawatomie, Kansas on September 17, 1935 to Ardella D. Smith (Alberty-Carter) and Robert Alberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters – Karen Alberty-Mason, Evelyn Smith, Edna Alberty-Preston and one brother – Edmond "Eddie" Alberty.

Austin attended elementary school in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was a graduate of Osawatomie High School where he was actively involved and enjoyed many activities during his attendance there. Austin was a sports jock. His favorite sport of all in high school was track. He was a speed monster on foot and was known to out run anyone up for the challenge. He also played the position of halfback in football.

Austin joined the United States Air Force and served for six years. Upon completion of those six years, he received an Honorary discharge. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from U.S. Motors in Pasadena, California. He believed in and prided himself with having good work ethics.

Austin confessed and gave his life to Christ. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He would often be found enjoying a game of pool, dominoes or cards. Austin's life-long love and significant other, Alice K. Holt (Topeka, Kansas) was who he spent a lot of his time with. She passed away exactly a week after his passing.

Memories of Austin will be cherished by:
His children: one daughter – Dorothy D. Scott (Tabby); one son – Johnny Alberty of Altadena, California; one grandson – Freddie Ishman; one granddaughter – Annisa Turner-Barnett; three great-grandchildren, his two chihuahua-dachshund mixed dogs named "Eyes" & "Ears" all of Topeka, Kansas; one sister – Alfreda J. Whitaker of Kansas City, Missouri and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2PM at River of Life Worship Center, 5010 SW 20th Ter. Topeka, Kansas
