Bernard L. "Bud" Vaughn, 84, Topeka, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Midland Hospice House. Bud was born August 1, 1928 in Topeka to Timothy B. and Lydia (Viles) Vaughn.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1946 and served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He began employment with the Gas Service Company in 1946 and retired in 1990 after 44 years of service.
Bud participated in the Foster Parent Program for several years. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #1 and VFW Post #1650, where he served as BINGO chairman for several years.
Bud married Alice "Billie" Byrd Vaughn on February 12, 1965 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors are sons, Patrick Wayne Vaughn, Randy Dayle (Cherie) Byrd; daughters, Billie Diane (Mike) Rose, Sandy Gayle (Bill) Foster, all of Topeka; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bernard "Buddy" Vaughn; grandson, Jared Pfeifer; three brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Bud will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
