Bernard Fay "Bernie" Swader, 89, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023.
He was born October 29, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Fay and Lillie (Behm) (Swader) Matson. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1951. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.
Bernie was employed by Falley's for 32 years, retiring in 1987 as the store manager.
Bernie married Luella Darlene Wangerin on June 22, 1952 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2021. Survivors include their three daughters, Susan Prockish (Larry), Lisa Muse, and Lori Waterman (Randy), all of Topeka; grandchildren Eric (Morgan) Waterman, Brian (Latisha) Muse, Kyle (Laney) Waterman and David Muse; ten great-grandchildren, Kyler, Jaxson, Ada, Grayson, Hayden, Cameron, Madelyn, Kylie, Atticus, and Luella. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Luella; brother Ora and sisters Delores and Vera.
Bernie enjoyed golf, KU basketball, Chiefs football, going to casinos, working out at cardiac rehab at St. Francis and spending time with his grandkids. He loved hosting many Super Bowl parties over the years. He and Luella travelled to many places over the years.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 31st at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 8616 SE Ratner Road in Berryton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30th at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
