Bernice W. Brown, 99, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at a Topeka hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born May 27, 1916 in Peoria, Illinois, one of ten children born to Herman F. and Minnie (Sardinson) Gentz. She and her husband moved to Topeka in the late 1980's. Bernice accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in the early 1960's and attended Covenant Baptist Church.
She married John W. Brown in Prophetstown, Illinois in 1950. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1992. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Owen, her great-grandson, Luke Scholl, two great-great-grandsons, Timothy Striet and Emmett Swords and all of her siblings.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Byron) Baker of Lena, Illinois, one son, Richard (Karen) Brown of Okemos, Michigan, son-in-law, Richard (Bernie) Owen, of Topeka, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she was very proud of. Bernice loved well and was well loved.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Topeka Rescue Mission (Doxazo Ministries), P.O. Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608.
