Bertha F. Brunswick, Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015, on her 103rd birthday.
Bertha was born October 12, 1912 west of Alma, the daughter of Henry F. Ringel, Sr. and Louise (Thowe) Ringel. She attended a one room school at Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1931.
She was married in 1941 to William F. Brunswick, who preceded her in death. They had one daughter, Glenda Gassdorf.
She was a member of First Congregational Church.
Bertha was a stay at home mom until their daughter was in school. She was a typist and worked for the Court of Topeka, Boys Industrial School and retired from the Secretary of State office in 1977. After a year at home, she worked as part-time secretary for Seabrook United Church of Christ for 13 years and for Custenborder's Florist for many years. She was Moderator of her church, also Secretary and Treasurer and a faithful worker.
Bertha gave up her home and moved to Aldersgate Village in 1995. There she provided transportation for residents, was Vice President for Aldersgate Village Council, Chairman for Village Bazaars, helped with activities and loved to play cards and all other games.
Her daughter, Glenda Gassdorf passed away in 2013. Bertha is survived by her son-in-law, Richard Gassdorf; grandchildren, David A. Gassdorf and wife Lori, and their children, Abrim & Rachel Gassdorf, Tammy Seefeld and husband Chad, and their daughter, Amanda Sayler and family; brother, Henry M. Ringel, Jr; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Ringel; and sisters, Elsie Hasenbank, Martha Havenstein and Helen Schroeder.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at the Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Alma. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015.
