Bertha L. Holmes

Bertha L. Holmes, 68, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009 at her residence. She was born on July 27, 1941 in Grady, Arkansas. Bertha had resided in Topeka since 1967. She was employed as an LPN at Lexington Park before retiring in 1999. Survivors include her long time companion, Joel Henderson, her children, Sam Holmes, Phillip Holloman, Edward Holloman, Joyce Ikiwoho, Charlie Holloman, Patricia Small and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by one daughter, Mamie Rogers, one grandson, Andre Baker and one sister, Lucille Holmes. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Bertha will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
