Betty Jean "Emmie" Clay, 94, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
She was born March 28, 1922, in Eskridge, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Alta (Blankenship) Smith.
She grew up in Eskridge, where she attended country schools and graduated from Eskridge High School. She taught at the Snokomo School House for several years and was later employed by USD 501 for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
Survivors include daughters, Patty (Fred) McAlexander and Jan (Daryl) Rhoades; a granddaughter, Lorna (Dary) McPhail; step-grandchildren, Angela (Greg) Roberts, Chris (Mary) McAlexander, Ashley (son, Aden) Rhoades, and Chris Rhoades; great-grandchildren, Tanner Anderson and Daegan McPhail; and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren M. Clay.
