Betty Lou Lewis, 86, of Lebo, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020.
She was born September 7, 1934, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of James Robbins Fick and Grace Opal (Paulson) Fick.
She received a bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and a Masters degree in education from UMKC.
Betty married Lewis R. Lewis ("Rod") on June 2, 1956 at the Congregational Church of Emporia. Betty created and ran one of the largest Montessori pre-schools in the United States for 15 years before moving with her family to Lebo Kansas.
Following the move, Betty taught Kindergarten in Lebo for 16 years. Many also know her as the parent educator for the Lebo Parents as Teachers organization and the volunteer art and reading tutor in Lebo and Osage City elementary schools.
Survivors include two children, David Lewis of Osage City and Susan Sundberg of Leawood; four grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother and parents.
A private family ceremony will be followed by a private interment in Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arvonia Restoration project, Farmers State Bank of Aliceville, Lebo Branch, PO Box 66, Lebo, KS 66856.
