Betty J. Macey, 95, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at a Lawrence care facility. She was born September 19, 1926, in Topeka to Charles Bradford and Emma Florence (Robinson) Searle.
Betty graduated from Topeka High School in 1944. She was employed as a seamstress for Macy's Department Store, JC Penney's, and the Kansas Neurological Institute. She was also a self-employed alterations and wedding consultant.
Betty was a member of the Oakland Presbyterian Church, served as President of the Theta Roe Girls, was a Girl Scout Leader from 1951 to 1963, was an award-winning baker and caterer, and taught cake decorating classes.
Betty married Albert E. Macey on March 12, 1944, in Topeka. After more than 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on September 17, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Jorden W. Austin on December 27, 2021, and by her infant brother, Glenn Charles Searle in 1928.
Survivors include Mayre M. Macey Hoffman of Topeka; Steven Lynn (Loraine Dee) Macey of Edwardsville, Kansas; six grandchildren, Michelle (Dave), Kristin, Matthew, Fahryn (Chris), Joe (Heather), and Shana; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, respect for the family requires attendants at the service to wear face masks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with arrangements.
