Betty Joan Moore, 82, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Midland Hospice House.
She was born June 30, 1930 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Harry J. and Cassie E. (Meier) Hashman. She was a 1948 graduate of Topeka High School.
Mrs. Moore was employed in early years for Capper Weekly. She would later work for USD 501 Schools, Alpha Delta Fraternity and Alpha Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta Sororities, Topeka Capital Journal and retired from the State of Kansas in 1995.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Capital Post No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary.
Betty married George Albert Moore on May 20, 1950 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2004. Survivors include five sons, Gregory A. (Debbie Portwood) Moore, Castle Pines, CO, Brian D. Moore, Wichita, KS, Darrell K. (Kimberly) Moore, Wichita, Gary L. Moore, Topeka and Patrick G. (Karen) Moore, Tecumseh, KS; 7 grandchildren, Scott, Ryan and Brittany Moore, Sarah (Brian) Cordill, Christopher (Jessica) Moore and Alyson Moore, Emily Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Easton Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Kelsey Moore and a brother, Dale Hashman.
Mrs. Moore was cremated. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka. Private family interment of cremated remains will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
