Betty Joyce Nielson, 79, passed away Wednesday, September, 20, 2017, after battling Alzheimer's for over 10 years in Topeka, Kansas. Betty was born May 22, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to Esther and Orley Mitchell of Missouri. She is survived by her younger brother Jerry Mitchell and his wife Peggy Mitchell of Lockwood, Missouri. Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Mitchell, of Missouri and her brother-in-law Curtis Barnes, of Texas. She was one of five children. She was preceded in death by her brothers Frank, Jimmy, and Richard Mitchell, and her sister, JoAnn Barnes.
Betty and James E. Williams were married for 12 years and had three children. She is survived by her son Michael Steven Williams and his wife Kathryn, of Queen Creek, Arizona. She is also survived by her son Daniel Charles Williams and his wife Yvonne of Apache Junction, Arizona, and her daughter Kelli Hathaway and her husband Patrick Hathaway of Topeka, Kansas. She was also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a nanny for many years and spend a large portion of her life working in food service. She also had the opportunity to manage her own cleaning service for more than 20 years.
Betty's passions in life included many. Along with her witty charm and contagious laugh, she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Everyone could depend on her when she was needed. She also enjoyed sewing, fishing, gardening, poker with her family, and she especially loved her cats.
Services will be held at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service on Friday September 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.
